CASA of
Jefferson County Receives Grant from Jewelers to Benefit
Children in Henry, Oldham & Trimble Counties
Louisville, KY – CASA of Jefferson County was recently
awarded a $10,000 grant from Jewelers For Children, the
leading charity of the U.S. jewelry industry. These funds
will be used to expand advocacy for abused and neglected
children in the Henry, Oldham and Trimble Counties area.
“We
faced the nearly impossible task of choosing, among many
highly qualified candidates, the relatively few programs
that we can recognize with a grant,” says David Rocha, the
Jewelers For Children Executive Director. “We are especially
proud of CASA of Jefferson County, for their exceptional
excellence and dedication to helping the abused children
with their communities.”
70
local CASA and GAL programs will receive funds this year
from a national grant administered by the National
CASA Association. “As a result of these grants, over 850
abused and neglected children across the country will
receive critical advocacy services,” says Michael Piraino,
National CASA Association CEO. “We are grateful to Jewelers
For Children for their deep commitment to helping change the
lives of these vulnerable children.”

CASA
of Jefferson County was started in November of 1984, and has
served our community for twenty years. This program
currently is able to serve 25% of the children who would
benefit from a CASA volunteer. According to Family Court
Judge Jerry Bowles, “I have found having a CASA volunteer on
a case greatly enhances information brought before the
court. I can feel confident that the child’s needs will
remain the focus of the case when a CASA volunteer is
involved.”
Over the last five
years, JFC has donated nearly $15 million to specific
programs benefiting children whose lives have been
devastated either by catastrophic illness or abuse and
neglect. In addition to the National CASA Association,
JFC’s charity partners include: the St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Make-A-Wish
Int’l. and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS
Foundation/Glaser Pediatric Research Network. You can visit
